" My primary interest in creating is to create objects that we use in everyday life that bring us beauty and joy. As our society becomes more desensitized to the individual, I feel that creating objects from hand, in ways that have existed throughout time, is vital and necessary. It is a contribution to remind people of the art of the hand made. In the every day use of objects and appreciation of art, one’s life is enriched, as it serves as a reminder of a deeper level that exists.

I have been continually fascinated by creating patterns over forms I create. I use the forms as a background for color and patterns over the beautiful white background that the porcelain provides. Porcelain provides a fluidity of movement and texture that is a continuous pleasure to work with. It is the everyday objects that we use that continually gives pleasure in their use, and the reminder of the artist. It is my intention to making different forms that are not necessarily functional to explore this aspect of creation.

Currently I am working on a series called The Water Series. In this series, I am using patterns and color with water as a source of inspiration. I am using porcelain, carving the patterns, and then using stains as a wash to color. These are then fired to a high temperature, cone 9, oxidation. In the last series of Black and White, I paint on a black slip and then carve the patterns on a thrown form. It is then fired to a high temperature, cone 9 in an oxidation atmosphere. "
